Position Opening: Communities that Care Coalition Coordinator
Plans, organizes, and builds community support for a Communities That Care (CTC) coalition, which promotes and develops the concept of prevention science in the City. This is a highly visible leadership position in the community and interacts with key community leaders, agencies, an extensive volunteer base, and other stakeholders to facilitate program goals and objectives. Works with Board of Directors to establish priorities, long-range plans, and other technical aspects of program operation. Follows evidence-based guidelines, manages allocated budget, and performs various administrative duties in support of the program.

Works under the general supervision of the City. Also follows the direction of Licensed Prevention staff from the Local Substance Abuse Authority and complies with state prevention guidelines and evidence-based prevention models.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Serves as the front-line representative of the City for substance abuse and mental/behavioral health prevention services. Helps to build a coalition with key community partners to follow the Strategic Prevention Framework to assess the community for specific needs, and then plan and implement strategies to address those needs.
- Meets with local officials and agencies to promote city-wide buy-in and support for the CTC program;
- Gives public and other group presentations;
- Prepares and releases survey information to the community;
- Prepares technical materials for presentations to groups;
- Coordinates and communicates with volunteers;
- Recruits and trains volunteers and partners on prevention science;
- Works with the coalition to write, update and implement a Strategic Action Plan;
- Carries out evaluations on implemented programs to ensure that they are effective and sustainable.
- Arranges for trainings and technical assistance for existing programs and facilitators;
- Oversee’s marketing and advertising of prevention programs;
- Recommends, implements, and enforces policies, procedures, and rules relating to prevention in the community.
- Prepares statistical reports on prevention needs and progress within the community;
- Serves as a role model and adviser for youth groups addressing prevention issues.
- Work closely with professional prevention staff to follow the Strategic Prevention Framework
- Obtain certification as a Prevention Specialist through the Federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, (Southwest Prevention will provide this certification)
- Obtain certification as a Communities That Care Coordinator through the University of Washington, Social Development Research Group, (Southwest Prevention will provide this certification)
- Attend the Utah Fall Substance Abuse Conference in St. George, Ut, (Southwest Prevention will provide registration)
Hours: Part-time 15-20 hours a week
